Disciples House-Vanderbilt alums Keith Wilson, Kaki Friskics-Warren, and Megan Huston all received print notice recently.

Because of the replacement of the House HVAC system, we were able to do some kitchen renovation as well. We installed a new gas cooktop with a fire-suppression venting hood (required by codes), a double oven, and (gasp!) a dishwasher, along with a new sink and countertops. Most existing cabinets have been retained. New tables, longer and narrower to better fit the space, as requested by students, were built by Ralph Parsons and John Carpenter (Thank you!) of Woodmont.

The big and complicated replacement of the heating and cooling system at Disciples House is 99% complete. A couple recent cold snaps have tested the system’s efficient heat exchange technology, and it has a few more adjustments and refinements in store. But there is all new equipment in place in the basement and new units in every room as well. And there are thermostats! Residents can control heat and cool in each individual room, as well as in the kitchen and Common Room.
Utility bills are changing as we integrate the system in company with the new windows. It’s still a little too early to tell about energy and cost savings from the modernization, but we…
